Just another post...

Two weeks ago i got a job at Johns Incredible Pizza Company. After working there for the last two weeks i can say its not that great of a job. My manager Fernando is really cool, i talk to him alot when the place is semi empty. He is like fluant in spanish and can speak a little japanese. My schedualing manager Marvin however is evil. I think he is already looking for an excuss to fier me, we have had several loud yelliing matches with each other over what hours i would work(long story). Other then that thoght the people are all really cool.

On my first week i learned how to work the prize table which is really easy but really stressful. There are like 6-10 people behind the counter at a time on busy days and theres alot of stumbling, falling, and running into eachother. Also to scan the cards that have the kids tickets on them we have to use our computer register, which we only have two of so its pretty inefficiant. there are always huge lines behind the counter to take tickets off of cards and a huge line in front of the counter to put money on the cards. Its really irritating.

But this last week i got trained to do rides. We have Bumper cars, a train roller coaster, one of those rides that brings you up to the top and dropps you called the frog hooper, and a ride that spins really fast and lifts up in the air, called the Twister. Running the rides is less strassful but not much more fun. The twister makes this big wind blow when its going and whenever i run that ride i get reall really cold. The train is hard to run for a long time because you have to hold this button down with your thumb the whole time its running and you have to stop it a jsut the right time. Bummper cars is my favrite because all you do is push a botton and let them go.

I think im pretty good at my job and i enjoy the people. I want to stay but i dont know if Marvin is going to want me to. Oh well we shall see.

Love Mandy

Academic Writing

I have to say that academic writing may be the most difficult writing styles for me. Although i have been going to school for thirteen years now, I still don't like my writing. Academic writing is hard for me because I tend to use words over and over again and It frustrates me because in my mind it makes me feel unintelligent for not knowing more. Even the most basic words used in college i tend to forget what it means like "coherent." In my experience, I think the reason I don't know more is because I try to learn all new words at once. When I went to summer school last year for college courses, I would write down any words that my instructor said which didn't understand and after class I would go home and review them write their definitions and try to memorize the definitions all in one day and through my experience, I now realized that that was a bad idea to do and not strain my brain so much. Now I know that learning takes time and if I would have broken the words down like trying to learn two or three words a day, I think that my vocabulary would be more open than it is right now. I learned from my mistake and now I know not to try to take EVERYTHING in one day and just gradually learn and you will get it.

Personal Writing

I have to say I am very shy and the way I express myself is through writing. I have been writing personally for years in the form of a poem or lyrics. I didnt know how creative I was until I started writing. I couldn't believe what i came up with. Now I write about three times a week and I love writing Personal. I talked with my cousin yesterday and we just talked about how to express ourselves and we kept talking about just writing it down. Now i Have written numerous poems in which I lost most of them but I am very glad and excited of what I wrote. I never in a million years thought I could be that deep or expressive. I have shared some with my classmates and teachers and family members and they say that I am a very good writer and poet. I wouldn't know what to do without writing. Writing for some is just a way to be creative. For others it is sort of a way of life. People who are very depressed, they use writing as a way out as a way to express themselves. Most people, it is a way to leave their emotions there and never look back. Writing is a way of life and gives hope to a lot of people.

Academic

After reading the story i would have to say that America is far from a melting pot. As a young woman I feel as though i am different from everyone else including people who share the same ethnicity as me. I understand that being different is a good thing because it allows you to show off your individuality, but when it comes to certain things like speaking or dressing i can tell that being different from my American brothers and sisters isn't always smiled upon. If America was a melting pot i should be able to speak in my own way to everyone i hold a conversation to whether it may be a teacher, boss, or even my closests friend. I shouldn't have to worry about using proper language or using slang terms. i should be able to dress in my own unique style and not be judged for the clothes that i have on my back. We shouldn't have to stick to our groups because that's where we feel the most comfortable, we should be able to feel comfortable around everyone and not have to worry about things like speaking well and dressing a certain way. If America was truely a melting pot we would be able to understand where each and everyone of us is coming from and wouldn't have to worry about being ourselves no matter what setting we are in.

Personal Writing 2

So I just started an accounting class and it’s totally confusing. I feel like I am being taught really simple math but in a totally different language. Everything goes right over my head. I really don’t know what I’m going to. It’s kinda like being told 1+1=2 in Russian. Everything about it is foreign and it doesn’t help that I am not very good at math in general. Its never been one of my stronger areas.
Lucky for me the professor really doesn’t seem to mind a lot of questions. Somthing I will be taking full advantage of. He seems like one of those guys who really wants you to talk in class and ask questions. That should help a little and if not I know a ton of people who are really gooda at math. I’m taking the class with one of my best friends and he is super good at math. I think he might be an accountant some day, he would be really good at it. i know he would be more then willing to help me in or out of class. Then there is always my boyfriend whos good at like everything, but esspesialy good at math. I can always go to my boyfriend for help, and i know he will always put up with any dumb questions. And last but not least is my insanely cool cousin. He is my age and a really awesome accounting major. He’s won a ton of awards for accounting during high school and he enjoys doing it.
I think I have my bases pretty well covered or at least i hope so! thankfully if i pass this class then this will be my last math class ever seeing as I'm an English major and i dont believe that i will ever use math again. We will jsut have to see wont we!!

Personal Writing

Ok, so yest my friend showed me this band called 'Ra'. They are tight. Their song 'Do you call my name' is now one of my favs, i even put it as my myspace song. Its rly addicting to listen to, i havent been able to get it out of my head since i heard it. I keep singing it around my other friends and they are tired of hearing it. Either that or it keeps getting stuck back in their head from me singing it and they get 'mad' at me for it lol. I was watching their video for it on youtube.com and the lead singer is really creepy looking. I think he kinda looks like fps doug on crack. I havent heard much of their other songs, but even if 'Do you call my name' is their only good one, they still rock imo.

Professional Writing

To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing today to share a little about myself and why I believe I am a suitable match for your company. Firstly, I have always admired the quality of work set forth by Company Inc., and feel that I could become an asset to the company.
My knowledge of business, english, retail, and mathematics are vital skills needed in this profession. I also consider myself to be a quick learner and can easily adapt to the routines of a new job. These are just a few of my qualities that I could offer my future employers. Also, my pervious employers have commended me for my ability to cater to the client. I always take it upon myself to ensure that the clientele are treated with the utmost care. The fact that I am also bilingual in Spanish and have taken over four years of French gives me the versatility to communicate with a broad spectrum of customers. The demand for this particular skill being high in areas such as Sacramento with quite an ethnically diverse population. Please do not hesitate to contact any of my previous employers, whose numbers I have attached on my resume.
I would like to sincerely thank you for your time and consideration.

Some say that America is a melting pot, others argue that it isnt. I say that it is a bunch of isolated indgredients going with the familiar. Sometimes you have to go outside comfort zone to do something positive. Many people now are so preoccupied of what others think of them than what they, or the people important to them, think of them. I admit I was like that before. Not anymore. Sometimes it gets to me but then I think of the people whose opinion mean the world to me. People are so caught up now that a little negative remark from a stranger depresses them. You just got to learn to live how to fight the negative so that it becomes a positive and maintain the positive within you. As they say, "Change the things you can and accept the things you cannot." My point is to experience new things like getting to know people who are different. Every generation is getting closer to ending segregation. All our generation has to do is one small thing and it could change the whole course of future generations.
