Academic
After reading the story i would have to say that America is far from a melting pot. As a young woman I feel as though i am different from everyone else including people who share the same ethnicity as me. I understand that being different is a good thing because it allows you to show off your individuality, but when it comes to certain things like speaking or dressing i can tell that being different from my American brothers and sisters isn't always smiled upon. If America was a melting pot i should be able to speak in my own way to everyone i hold a conversation to whether it may be a teacher, boss, or even my closests friend. I shouldn't have to worry about using proper language or using slang terms. i should be able to dress in my own unique style and not be judged for the clothes that i have on my back. We shouldn't have to stick to our groups because that's where we feel the most comfortable, we should be able to feel comfortable around everyone and not have to worry about things like speaking well and dressing a certain way. If America was truely a melting pot we would be able to understand where each and everyone of us is coming from and wouldn't have to worry about being ourselves no matter what setting we are in.
